32World Osteoporosis Day
- News room - Latin America Region
In 2024 World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) was held under the motto “Let's Say NO to Fragile Bones”. When planning the events, the Coordination Center of the Osteoporosis Patient Society OSTEORUS used posters, layouts that were recommended by the IOF. Great emphasis was placed on vertebral fractures and the economic burden on the patient and his(/her) relatives.
OSTEORUS and the Russian Association on Osteoporosis (RAOP) jointly developed a plan for WOD and recommended it to the Osteoporosis Centers in the Russian Federation. Within the framework of the International Day, the XI All-Russian Contest for the best children's drawing (poster) under the motto “Artificial Intelligence in the fight for healthy bones” was announced in the Russian Federation. After summarizing the results of the contest, the best drawings will be used for the calendar for 2026.
Special attention was paid to the importance of conducting a one-minute test to determine the risk of developing osteoporosis. A digital campaign was conducted, the statistics obtained revealed the geography and age of the campaign participants. The Central District of the Russian Federation was the most active in conducting the risk test.
In 2024, 16 cities and 17 osteoporosis centers participated in the activities for WOD. Forty-three events were placed on the global WOD map. The following cities participated in the events: Arkhangelsk, Bugulma, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Yoshkar-Ola, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Moscow and Moscow region, Nakhodka, Nevyansk, Omsk, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Ufa, and Yaroslavl. Educational and useful events were held in schools, colleges, universities, shopping centers and public squares. OSTEORUS and RAOP participated in joint events with other public organizations and signed the IOF Patients Charter.
Mass media were widely used to spread information about the “silent” and dangerous disease - osteoporosis: radio, television, online editions, newspapers, social networks of organizations and people, messengers, online and offline lectures, videos created at the Yaroslavl orphanage and osteoporosis centers.
An agreement about joint actions to prevent osteoporosis was signed between the All-Russian Patient Society “OSTEORUS”, RAOP, YAR NGO “Union of Women of Russia” and Yaroslavl State Medical University.
In September 2024, the IX All-Russian Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Other Metabolic Diseases of the Skeleton was held, where a report on the plan for WOD-24 was made.
The work of OSTEORUS and RAOP was commended by the IOF for raising awareness of osteoporosis in the Russian Federation.
OSTEORUS and RAOP sincerely thank IOF for all the useful recommendations and numerous visual materials for World Osteoporosis Day, saying "We appreciate the help and support we receive from all the IOF team members every year."
