National Osteoporosis Day 2024 in Indonesia: A Nationwide Call to Action
To commemorate National Osteoporosis Day 2024, the Indonesian Osteoporosis Association (Perhimpunan Osteoporosis Indonesia or PEROSI) conducted a range of initiatives uniting healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public. These efforts underscored the importance of raising awareness about osteoporosis and promoting robust prevention and treatment strategies, especially as Indonesia’s aging population faces an elevated risk of bone-related conditions.
IOF and PEROSI: A Legacy of Advocacy
PEROSI is a longstanding and valued member of the IOF. Led by Dr. dr. Tirza Z. Tamin, Sp.KFR, M.S(K), FIPM(USG), PEROSI carries forward IOF’s vision as the country’s leading authority on osteoporosis. Through these branches, the organization champions an integrated, nationwide approach to bone health.
Virtual Seminar: “Energik dan Dinamis Lawan Osteoporosis”
A centerpiece of National Osteoporosis Day 2024, held in collaboration with Anlene, was a highly attended Virtual Seminar titled “Energik dan Dinamis Lawan Osteoporosis” (“Energetic and Dynamic Against Osteoporosis”), drawing more than 1,900 medical
professionals. The event was formally opened by Dr. dr. Tirza Z. Tamin, Sp.KFR, M.S(K), FIPM(USG), Chairwoman of PEROSI, and featured a keynote address by Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid, Head of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention division at the Ministry of Health. Public Engagement: Car Free Day Activities
In collaboration with Anlene, PEROSI hosted health-focused sessions during Car Free Day (CFD) events each Sunday from November 3 leading up to December 15. These gatherings featured aerobic exercises and health screenings, where PEROSI members offered personalized guidance on endurance, mobility, and strength tests. By reaching citizens in a casual outdoor setting, the association effectively promoted healthier lifestyles to prevent osteoporosis-related complications.
A Grand Finale in Six Cities
On December 15, PEROSI marked National Osteoporosis Day 2024 with simultaneous flag-off ceremonies in Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Medan, Bali, and Yogyakarta. A fun walk spearheaded the day’s program, with over 1,000 participants joining at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno alone—and an additional 100 to 250 participants in each of the other five locations. The event also included group aerobics and free bone health checks. High-profile attendees— dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi from the Ministry of Health, Dr. dr. Tirza Z. Tamin, Chairwoman of PEROSI, and Yauwanan Wigneswaran, President Director of Fonterra Brands Indonesia (Anlene)—emphasized the importance of collective action in reducing osteoporosis incidence. A jersey-signing ceremony further symbolized the commitment among the Ministry of Health, PEROSI, and Anlene to intensify the fight against the disease.
Unified Efforts for a Healthier Future
A vibrant array of photos from Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Medan, and other regions showcased an unwavering community spirit. From citywide fun walks to focused health seminars, each local celebration echoed the year’s overarching theme of “Energik dan Dinamis,” motivating attendees to actively safeguard their bone health.
PEROSI branches across Indonesia also participated in enlivening National Osteoporosis Day.
Overall, National Osteoporosis Day 2024 saw unprecedented success in bridging the gap between clinical expertise and public engagement. Under PEROSI’s leadership, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community members nationwide collectively demonstrated their dedication to better bone health—a commitment that stands to strengthen Indonesia’s future.
