On November 22, 2024, the Parque Hotel Jean Clevers in Punta del Este hosted the 2nd edition of the International Endocrinology Conference in Uruguay. This event brought together prominent specialists from Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, the United States, and Italy to share the latest advances in the field of endocrinology.

At this prestigious gathering, Dr. Fabiana Subies, FLS mentor for the Capture the Fracture® programme in Argentina, delivered a special presentation titled “Optimizing the Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis Throughout Life.” During her talk, she emphasized the crucial role of Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) in preventing secondary fractures and improving patients’ quality of life.

What are FLS and why are they essential? FLSs (Fracture Liaison Services) represent a key strategy to manage patients with osteoporosis and bone fragility. These services ensure that individuals who have suffered a fragility fracture receive proper diagnosis and timely treatment, thereby reducing the risk of future fractures. Additionally, they significantly alleviate the burden on healthcare systems by reducing costs associated with hospitalizations and complications.

Dr. Subies encouraged Uruguayan professionals to adopt this model, highlighting the potential benefits for the country. Her presentation showcased the achievements of FLS in Argentina, inspiring attendees to implement this preventive approach which could transform post-fracture care and improve the quality of life for thousands of people in Uruguay.

Under the coordination of Dr. Felipe Geraci and Dr. Claudia Firpo, the International Endocrinology Conference not only fostered knowledge exchange among specialists, but also strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration between fields such as endocrinology, rheumatology, geriatrics, and clinical medicine.

We congratulate the organizers on the success of this event and appreciate the opportunity to participate in such an enriching platform. For more information on FLS and the Capture the Fracture® program, visit: www.capturethefracture.org
