Webinar: Premature Ovarian Failure (Early Menopause) and Bone Health

Early menopause is often characterised by the cessation of ovarian function before the age of 45. Early hypoestrogenism has a profound effect on many organ systems including bone, with an increased risk of osteoporosis. 

In this BoneCast webinar, our speaker, Dr Tobias de Villiers, a member of the IOF Committee of Scientific Advisors, will review the characteristics of early menopause, the diagnosis and its clinical consequences with a focus on bone health. He will also explore strategies to reduce fracture risk in women at risk.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr Tobias de Villiers is an obstetrician and gynaecologist currently practising in a private clinic in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a member of the IOF Scientific Advisory Committee. He is Chairman of the National Osteoporosis Foundation South Africa Council, and is past president of the International Menopause Society. His research interests include menopause, menopausal hormone therapy and the effects of oestrogen on bone health. Dr de Villiers has been instrumental in the development of numerous international guidelines for the therapeutic management of menopause and is the author of over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
