ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Medal
The ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Medal was awarded for the first time in 2017, and is presented to a young investigator who has demonstrated outstanding scientific merit early in his or her career, prior to reaching a prominent academic position, and who is expected to be a future thought-leader in the musculoskeletal field.
The 2024 ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award was awarded to Dr Lakshmi Nagendra MD, Associate Professor at the Department of Endocrinology, JSS Medical college, JSS Academy of Higher education and Research, Mysore, India.
The 2023 ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award was presented to Dr Germain Honvo, Lecturer of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), and a Scientific Collaborator of the University of Liège (Belgium), Division of Public Health, Epidemiology and Health Economics. The Award was presented at the WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.
The 2022 ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award was awarded to Dr Nicholas Fuggle MBBS BSc MRCP PGCert HBE, on the occasion of the Virtual WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2022. Dr Fuggle is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Lecturer at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre at the University of Southhampton.
Dr Nicola Veronese, M.D. Assistant Professor and Senior researcher at the University of Palermo, Health Promotion, Maternal and Child Health; Internal Medicine and Specialty of Excellence "G. D'Alessandro", was awarded the ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Medal on the occasion of the virtual Congress WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2021.
The 2020 ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award was awarded to Dr Daniel Pinto of the College of Health Sciences, Marquette University, and the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, USA on the occasion of the Virtual WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2020.
Dr Shaun Sabico was awarded the ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award at the WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2019 in Paris, France. Working at King Saud University, Dr Sabico was recognized for his notable work in the areas of vitamin D research and guideline development.
Dr Emmanuel Biver (EB) MD, PhD, of the Division of Bone Diseases Geneva University Hospitals and Faculty of Medicine was presented with the 2018 ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award at the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis & Musculoskeletal Diseases, held in Kraków, Poland.
The 2017 medal was awarded to Dr Kassim Javaid during the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases in Florence, Italy in March 2017.
Dr M. Kassim Javaid completed medical training at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, and then specialized in adult rheumatology at the Wessex Deanery. He completed a PhD examining the maternal determinants of intra-uterine bone growth as part of an ARC Clinical Fellowship at the University of Southampton. He was awarded an ARC travelling fellowship and worked with the Osteoarthritis (OA) Group at University of California, San Francisco to study the role of vitamin D and bone in lower limb OA. Dr Javaid is currently Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist and Associate Professor in Metabolic Bone Disease at the University of Oxford. His research interests include the role of epidemiology of musculoskeletal diseases focusing on secondary fracture prevention and rare bone diseases.
