OSTEOPOROSIS AND FRACTURE RISK EVALUATION TOOL
A tool to help doctors communicate key points to their patients
Patients often do not understand the link between osteoporosis and the high risk of fracture, or they may overestimate the very rare occurrence of serious side effects. Consequently, patients may fail to take up, or adhere to, anti-osteoporosis medication. To foster better understanding,
IOF and the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF) have developed a simple tool, which includes questions for evaluation and helps primary care providers initiate a dialogue with their patients about osteoporosis and fracture risk. It is intended to be used during medical consultations to improve patients’ understanding of their condition and of the relative risks and benefits of anti-osteoporosis medications.
